My Role This Week:

I’m the Press Officer for the Volvo China Open Shenzhen, China. This week I’m looking after local media requests, helping arrange interviews for our broadcast partners and producing reports from the tournament.

Short Description:

With my new European Tour-branded OGIO bags in tow, my 12 hour direct flight from London Heathrow to Hong Kong airport began on Sunday night. My new suitcases definitely attracted some second glances on the baggage reclaim belt in HK!

This week, we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Volvo China Open. That is a remarkable achievement considering golf is still seen as a relatively new and minority sport in the world’s most populous nation. Li Haotong, the star of the show this week, is now World Number 39 and played with Tiger Woods at the Masters… we’re definitely making big progress!

It is always a pleasure to work alongside some of the world’s best golfers and press conferences with them can often be good fun, especially with some interesting and random questions from the Chinese media, such as ‘what is your favourite car’? Considering the event’s title sponsor, they all very diplomatically said Volvo!

One of the best things about our job is experiencing new cultures and being treated to experiences you would never see at home. The opening photoshoot this week featured a traditional Chinese dragon dance – as you can see the players are all wearing the renowned yellow jacket as they are all former Volvo China Open champions.
