My Role This Week:

As the BMW PGA Championship takes place at our Wentworth headquarters, it is an incredibly busy week for everyone involved, particularly our comms team. That is why we have the majority of our press officers on duty and my role is to oversee the running of the media centre and our external communications.

This week’s BMW PGA Championship, our fourth Rolex Series event of 2019, takes place at Wentworth, the home of the European Tour, so our first photo is something of a rarity – four press officers in the same place at the same time! It also means we are travelling lightly for a change, with only our Ogio rucksacks for company. Here are Briony, Neil, Clare and myself, Steve, modelling them in front of the press conference backdrop, where we’ve been welcoming some of the world’s leading golfers this week.

The BMW PGA Championship has moved from May to September this year and as a result we’ve assembled one of the strongest field’s in the history of tournament. This includes ten of Europe’s victorious Ryder Cup team, four American debutants (Tony Finau, Billy Horschel, Andrew Putnam and Patrick Reed) and the Open Champion, Shane Lowry, who is making his first appearance in Europe since lifting the Claret Jug. Here is Shane in his preview press conference with Neil on Tuesday, shortly after he was presented with Honorary Life Membership of the European Tour for his achievements this summer.

Not only have can we boast a stellar field of professionals, but on Wednesday we also welcome some stars from others sports and entertainment for the Celebrity Pro-Am, the traditional curtain raiser to the BMW PGA Championship. Cricket has been a big part of the British Summer and several of England’s stars from the World Cup and the Ashes swapped the wicket for the fairways, including Ben Stokes and Joe Root, pictured here.

The weather forecast is perfect for the tournament itself and we’re expecting around 100,000 fans to visit Wentworth across the tournament week. We’ve had some impressive champions in recent years, including Ryder Cup players Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy, Chris Wood, Alex Noren and Francesco Molinari, so the scene is set for another memorable BMW PGA Championship.
