My Role This Week:

I’m the Press Officer for the GolfSixes Cascais at Oitavos Dunes. I’m looking after local media requests, helping arrange interviews for our broadcast partners and producing reports from the tournament.

Short Description:

This week, I headed to the coast of Portugal for the GolfSixes Cascais – the first time we have staged the six-hole format outside of England. This event has come on leaps and bounds since its inception two years ago and the format has been rolled out across Europe at grassroots level, with many national federations welcoming it as an inclusive and enjoyable format for kids. It’s fun to watch too, so hopefully the fans at the course and watching on TV will enjoy the buzz as much as those of us working at the event.

The theme of this week is fun and we began with a beach player activity, with four of the national teams taking part in a beach football penalty shootout. The hosts Portugal emerged victorious after a rather hilarious contest, with our mascot Sixy proving the star of the show with some incredible saves!

The European Tour has been at the forefront of innovation in golf in the last few years – with GolfSixes one of the driving forces – and this week we’re pushing the proverbial boat out further. Players will be permitted to play in shorts for the first time in competitive play, distance measuring devices are permitted in competitive play for the first time and as you’ll see in the photo, the sixth and final tee is located on top of a swimming pool, with a surrounding bar area and a live DJ throughout the day!

We are very lucky at the European Tour to work in some of the most picturesque places in Europe and beyond, and this week is certainly no different. Cascais is a truly beautiful little holiday town, with sandy beaches, coastal castles, fantastic restaurants and a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. But there is one thing about Portugal which I love more than anything else, the Portuguese tarts! Hope you enjoy watching GolfSixes on TV.
