What: European Tour Event: Belgian Knockout
Where: Rinkven International GC
Miles Travelled:

432.7 miles

My Role This Week:

I’m the Press Officer for the Belgian Knockout in Antwerp. This week I’m looking after local media requests, helping arrange interviews for our broadcast partners and producing reports from the tournament.

Short Description:

Briony on course with her OGIO Alpha Backpack

This week, my OGIO bags and I have made the short trip across the English Channel from London to Antwerp for the Belgian Knockout. The sun is out at Rinkven International Golf Club today and I’m looking forward to play getting underway because it is a slightly different format to what we are used to on the European Tour this week. The opening two rounds will seed the players through regular strokeplay, before the leading 64 players go head-to-head in the nine-hole knockout stages.

Grote Markt in Antwerp

Welcome to Antwerp! Chocolates, waffles, beer and moules-frites line the streets of the ‘Grote Markt’ in the old town. Whenever I’m travelling abroad, I make sure there is always time to do a little bit of exploring and visit some of the historical sights. Plus, with a few recommendations from some of the local players and the promoters of this week’s event, it certainly helps you experience the best parts of a city just like a local.

Briony hosts a press conference with the tournament ambassadors

Before the event I hosted a joint press conference with tournament ambassadors Thomas Pieters, Thomas Detry and Nicolas Colsaerts. It is safe to say the three Belgians are all very proud to have a European Tour event back in their home country, and none more so than Thomas Pieters, with the Ryder Cup stars family the tournament promoter. Pieters Productions is operated by Thomas’ two siblings, Lieselotte Pieters and Pieter-Jan Pieters, their respective spouses, Jeremy Anciaux and Celine Jacobs, as well as parents Jacques and Veronique Pieters.

Rinkven International Golf Course

The golf courses we visit on the European Tour are some of the best in the world and it’s always great to see something different everywhere you go. We are at Rinkven International Golf Course this week and I generally find the best way to see the course is running it in the evening once practice is finished, but with the longer days this week it might not be possible. So, I will just have to settle walking a few holes towards the weekend.
