My Role This Week:

I’m the Press Officer this week at the BMW International Open. I’ve worked closely with the BMW media team in preparing for the event and have helped arrange interviews and press conferences for our broadcast partners and local media organisations. I’m also handling various requests that come up throughout the week and producing reports from the tournament.

Short Description:

It wouldn’t be the BMW International Open without a fleet of BMW cars to shuttle players, caddies and staff to-and-from hotels this week. Like Callaway, BMW are an Official Partner of the European Tour and have been for over a decade. I had the opportunity to travel back to my hotel on Tuesday with Thongchai Jaidee, a member of Thailand’s victorious GolfSixes Cascais team just a fortnight ago. We talked about his win, how his season is going so far and, fittingly, about his love of cars.

Making his 14th appearance at the BMW International Open is home-favourite Martin Kaymer. After winning this event in 2008, he remains the only German player to have triumphed at this tournament. He was close to winning his second BMW International Open title last year, finishing just one stroke behind champion Matt Wallace. Martin has been great with his time this week, making a real effort for the German media here on site. In addition, he took an hour after the Wednesday Pro-Am to spend time with children from different golf clubs in Bavaria, who were invited to ‘Kid’s Day’ by BMW, and did a Q&A with them.

Rather than a traditional interview room, this week our press conferences are taking place in the Fairway Club, which lines the 18th hole at Golfclub München Eichenried. Callaway Touring Professional Sergio Garcia was our last preview press conference before the action starts on Thursday. The Spaniard is looking forward to the next few weeks on European soil, particularly defending the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters title he won last year. He has been a runner-up at this event twice and has three further top-ten finishes – safe to say he enjoys playing in Germany!

Our content team spent time with Callaway Touring Professional Alex Noren on Wednesday morning, taking questions from social media which he then answered in his car on the way from the hotel. He showed us earlier this year how to hit a fade with his Callaway Tour Tips video, and this time he answered questions about life on and off the golf course.
